Philosophy

Our farm is known for horses that “smile from the heart.”  Like people, horses each have their own story. They have personalized needs which must be understood and appreciated. The best results come from a “no rush” training approach.  Love and respect are reflected and returned through attitude and performance.

Our beautiful 140 acre farm offers round pens, a large outdoor arena, stadium and x-country courses, and lovely, scenic trails. In addition, a secluded, rustic cabin with beautiful mountain views awaits riders, hikers, x-country skiers, snowshoers, or anyone seeking a peaceful, unique, private get-a-way.

Horses are accepted for training on a monthly basis, but we also offer short term accommodations for owners who want a “tune-up” for themselves and/or their equine buddies. Both horse and rider can stay at the farm for a period of two days to a week. Owners with horses in training can also stay at the end of their horse’s training period before trailering their horse home. This is a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of personalized instruction that will make the transition from farm to home so much easier.  The farm’s main residence has two lovely rooms available for short-stay options.

SSF has developed an apprentice program designed for competent riders wishing to learn training techniques that can be applied to a variety of horse needs. This encompasses readying horses for the trail, as well as the show ring. The training emphasis is to produce horses confident in their work and play, while students learn to train the all-around horse.
